Dr Evangelia Daskalakou is a Research Director at the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems-ELGO 'Dimitra' (2002-present). She graduated from the Department of Forestry & Natural Environment, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1990) and completed her PhD research on “Ecophysiology of the post-fire regeneration of the Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis)” in the Faculty of Biology, Department of Botany, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece (1996). She gained experience as a forester in the Greek Forestry Service (West Attica Region, 1990-1992) and worked as a Research Associate at the Department of Botany, NKUA (1990-1999). She also served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management, (Karpenisi) Technological Education Institute (TEI) of Central Greece (1996-1999) and was involved in the «Management Plan of Peri-urban Forest of Mt Aigaleo-Poikilo» (Development Association of West Attica, 2000-2002).
During her research activity, she participated on more than 25 National and European Research Projects (both as Scientific Responsible or a Working Group member, as well), followed by publications in international scientific journals and scientific works announced at International and National conferences. Today, her main research interests are focused on post-fire regeneration, ecophysiology of seed germination and seedling establishment, seed biology and technology on forest trees, aiming at the post-fire recovery of degraded forest ecosystems, the sustainable forest management and the conservation of the native tree flora of Greece.
